Correction, Big Data is not Big Data Analytics!

The common misconception that I have been hearing lately is that people are referring to machine learning, NLP and analytics in general as "Big Data". This is more Big Data Analytics. Well, it probably doesn't matter, but if you are in the field of data mining research and analytics, it is probably a good idea to get these terms right. Here is a nice definition of Big Data: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/data/bigdata/. Big data analytics refers to the tools and techniques used to analyze and make sense of big data. This encompasses techniques from data mining, text mining, natural language processing and of course machine learning.

If someone is into "Big Data" it does not really mean that they are working on the analytics part. They could be working on the technology side of Big Data.
